Day Care Centre
As reported in the Limerick Post, proposals on
Suicide Prevention Day Care Counseling Centre has been shelved due to a
lack of funding. We have not given up on this and will be taking up the
offer of meetings with Minister Tim O’Malley and MWHB representatives.
We will also be forwarding a copy of this report to the Minister for
Health Ms. Mary Harney. This report is published in full on our website.
RSAG meet with other Groups
Members of the Group travelled to Middleton Co.
Cork for the first meeting of The Lets Get together Foundation. This Group
has been formed like our selves after a number of deaths by suicide in
Middleton and has been making great strides in the area of suicide
awareness. They have featured in a number of TV programs and newspaper
articles. We have also been in contact with a similar group called the
PIPS Project in the Ardoyne, Belfast who have also featured on TV and
Newspapers. Representatives of these groups including RSAG and other
groups from around the country hope to meet in the New Year. All these
groups are made up of families and community members directly affected by
suicide.
Suicide Remembrance Tree
Arrangements are been made to have a suicide
remembrance tree placed in the Augustinian Church, O’Connell St,
Limerick for two days in early December. We hope to give those affected by
suicide an opportunity in their own private space, to light a candle in
remembrance of those who have died by suicide and leave a message on the
tree if they wish. By looking at his tree and the messages on it those
bereaved by suicide who feel isolated and lonely will realise that they
are not alone and that a lot of people share their pain. There will also
be a multi-denominational service at the end of the second day. Full
details to follow. It is hoped that similar Remembrance trees will put up
in Middleton and The Ardoyne and other parts of the country.

like the sister of a young suicide victim who suggested that while
young men may not talk about their feelings they may text a help line.
